If you are an applicant seeking employment or appointment as a contractor, we collect your information to assess your suitability.

If you are an employee or contractor, we collect your information for all purposes relevant to your employment or engagement with us.

2.2 WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT AND STORE?

The personal information we collect and store will depend on why you contact us and on which CG services products you order and/or subscribe to. The information may include:

  • Your name and contact details, including your physical address, email address, and telephone number(s)

  • Your bank account and/or credit card details
  • Your employment history (which may include sensitive information), if you apply for a job with us
  • Other employment-related information, if you apply for a job with us

3.3  EMAIL LISTS

Where possible, we will allow you to interact with us anonymously or using a pseudonym.  For example, if you contact our Customer Service Team with a general question, you won’t be required to give your name. However, for most of our services, we usually need your name and contact information and enough information about the particular matter to enable us to fairly and efficiently handle your inquiry, request, complaint, or application, or to act on your communication with us.

4.2 DEVICE DATA ACCESS

In providing diagnostics, repairs, upgrades, software installations and technical support, Cheap Geek technicians may have incidental access to information stored on customer devices.

This information may include:

  • Emails;
  • Documents;
  • Photographs;
  • Videos;
  • Applications;
  • Browser information;
  • Cloud storage accounts;
  • Business records;
  • Other personal or commercial information.

Cheap Geek only accesses information reasonably necessary to diagnose, repair, configure or test devices.  Customers acknowledge that incidental access to device content may occur during the provision of services.

4.3 PASSWORDS AND ACCESS CREDENTIALS

Customers may provide passwords, PIN codes, passcodes, encryption keys, administrator credentials or cloud account credentials to facilitate diagnostics, testing and repair.  Cheap Geek will take reasonable steps to protect such information and will only use credentials for authorised service purposes.

Customers are encouraged to change passwords following completion of repairs.

5. OPTING-OUT OF TARGETED ADS
5.1 WEB BROWSER

You can opt-out of receiving personalized ads (including retargeted ads) served by us or on our behalf by clicking on the blue icon that typically appears in the corner of the ads we serve and following the instructions provided. Please note that this “opt-out” function is browser-specific and relies on an “opt-out cookie”;  thus, if you delete your cookies or upgrade your browser after having opted out, you will need to opt-out again. If you use a Safari browser, please also see directions regarding our cookie-less technology opt-out below.

Cheap Geek utilises a range of third-party service providers to assist in delivering services to customers.  These providers may include:

  • RepairDesk and related repair management systems;
  • Xero accounting software;
  • Payment gateway providers;
  • SMS notification providers;
  • Email communication providers;
  • Website hosting providers;
  • Cloud storage providers;
  • Microsoft 365;
  • Google Workspace;
  • Security and monitoring providers.

Personal information is disclosed only where reasonably necessary for the provision of services or operation of the business.

9. OVERSEAS DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Cheap Geek may use third-party cloud providers and software platforms that store or process information outside Australia.  Where personal information is disclosed or stored overseas, Cheap Geek takes reasonable steps to ensure that service providers maintain privacy protections substantially similar to those required under Australian privacy laws.  Countries in which data may be processed or stored may include, but are not limited to:

  • United States;
  • Canada;
  • Singapore;
  • United Kingdom;
  • European Union member countries.

The actual location of stored data may vary depending on the service provider used.

10. DATA BREACH RESPONSE

If Cheap Geek becomes aware of a data breach involving personal information that is likely to result in serious harm, Cheap Geek will comply with its obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches Scheme contained within the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).  Where required by law, affected individuals and relevant authorities will be notified.

11. CCTV MONITORING

Cheap Geek premises may be monitored by CCTV systems for:

  • Security;
  • Theft prevention;
  • Staff safety;
  • Asset protection;
  • Warranty investigations;
  • Dispute resolution.

CCTV footage may contain images of customers, visitors and contractors.  Footage may be disclosed to law enforcement agencies, insurers or legal representatives where permitted or required by law.

12. REPAIR TRACKING SYSTEM

Cheap Geek may collect and process information through repair management and customer notification systems. This may include:

  • Repair ticket information;
  • Device information;
  • Repair status updates;
  • SMS notifications;
  • Email notifications;
  • Customer communications.

This information is used solely for the management and delivery of repair services.

13. DATA RECOVERY SERVICES

Where data recovery services are provided, Cheap Geek performs such services on a best-efforts basis.  Cheap Geek does not guarantee that any lost, corrupted or inaccessible data can be recovered.  Customers acknowledge that recovery attempts may not always be successful.

14. RETENTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Cheap Geek retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide services;
  • Meet legal obligations;
  • Resolve disputes;
  • Enforce agreements;
  • Maintain business records.

When information is no longer required, Cheap Geek will take reasonable steps to securely destroy, delete or de-identify that information.
